Abstract:
As a geographic term, “Chang'an” used to refer to the capital of Han and Tang dyn-asties, but the term “Chang'an” in Song poetry referred to the capital in that period, such as Bianjing an Lin'an, what is more, it was endowed with rich and profound cultural implication. After the study of the image of “Chang'an” frequently used in Song poetry, we find this term was used to refer to officialdom, kindness of the emperor, political ideal, political vanity fair and fun place. In Southern Song poetry, “Chang'an” referred to the lost northern territory. The rich and various meanings of “Chang'an” in Song poetry were associated not only with the reality of Song dynasty but also with the culture inheritance from the previous dynasties.
