- Abstract:
- In order to shed light on the regional problems in the construction and investment of the transportation infrastructure in Shaanxi province from the perspective of externality, and to offer theoretical help for the construction direction of the transportation infrastructure, this paper adds the spatial elements to the study on the direct effect and spillover effect of the transportation infrastructure on economic growth based on the relevant data of various cities in Shaanxi province from 2009 to 2017, constructs the production function and spatial weight matrix, and selects the appropriate spatial panel econometric modelto study the economic spillovers of the transportation infrastructure in Shaanxi province through the autocorrelation test (Moran index), LM test and Hausman test. The results show that the spillover effect of transportation infrastructure on economic growth in Shaanxi province from 2009 to 2017 is negative on the whole (significant), but positive spillover still exists in some areas, namely, the economic clusters (Xi’an, Baoji, Xianyang)with Xi’an as the most typical caseas well asthe northern Shaanxi economic clusters combiningYulin and Yan’an. Overconcentration of resources and lack of interconnectivity between the two uplands are important reasons for the overall negative spillover. In terms of the quantity and quality of geographical distribution, the spillover effect of transportation infrastructure should be fully considered to avoid the overconcentration of resources in Xi’an. It is suggested that the government should constructa major economic pathwayconnectingthe two economic uplands, and give priority to supporting the relatively backward cities with promising development prospects to promote the transformation of Shaanxi’s economic development from overall agglomeration to overall diffusion.
