Abstract:
To implement the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education in building China into a leading country in education in the new era, this paper follows the “two integrations” framework, particularly adhering to the methodological imperative of the “second integration”, and firmly focuses on the question of “what kind of people to cultivate, how to cultivate them, and for whom to cultivate them”, conducting research based on major real-world issues. The study finds that only by addressing the pervasive issue of “hollowing-out” in ideological and political education can the fundamental goals of “cultivating talent for the Party and the State” be truly achieved on the basis of fulfilling the core task of fostering virtue through education. The study argues that teachers must reinforce and internalize their faith in the basic tenets of Marxism, solidify their belief in the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics, and ignite confidence in the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. On this foundation, they must treat the construction of a culturally-rooted psychological structure-modeled as an equilateral triangle composed of students' universal elements of knowledge, emotion, and will-as the central task of ideological and political education in the current phase. This structure enables students to “externalize in action” through the mediation of “clarifying the mind and strengthening resolve” during the process of “internalization within the heart”. Looking forward, traditional Chinese educational thought on “education for cultivating complete persons” should be adopted as the logical starting point. On this basis, the educational approaches that embody Chinese characteristics-namely, “educating for cultivating capable and enlightened persons” and “nurturing for fostering moral uprightness”-should be unified. Through the path-dependent logic of “three-aspect holistic education”(all-member education, whole-process education, and all-dimensional education), students can gradually develop a subjective world imbued with Chinese values, sentiments, and cultural flavor throughout their moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic, and labor-based development.
