- The paper concretely analyzes the internal mechanics for the creation of the imagination about homeland and poetry which run through the whole novel from the perspective of XIAO Qian’s vagrancy experience, nostalgia and love. His novels are few and always finished in a short time, but they have a continuous and great influence in the modern literary circles in China. Even XIAO Qian himself is regarded as one of the representative writers of Beijing school novels. His Valley of Dreams is favored by BA Jin, JIN Yi and others at the beginning of the issue, which then is referred as one of the best novels since the “May 4th” by literary historians. The key reason for success of XIAO Qian’s novels is the strong flavor of poetry between the lines.
