Abstract:
With the help of systemetic method, the author in the paper explores the historical traces, styles, evolution and the interaction between the region and environment in the development of Chang'an painting. The analysis finds that Chang'an painting stepped to its prosperity in the Sui and Tang Dynasties and lost its lead in the period of Ming and Qing Dynasties. However, there were still some fam- ous painters who had strong humanism. During the Republic of China era, the patriotism became its main theme with its cultural movement to the west, forming a saltatory mode of development, but laying solid founation for the present Chang'an painting school. The author also finds that Chang'an paninting is characterized by realistic painting and realism thought in the whole process of its evolution.
