Abstract:
In order to interpret the characteristics of Faulkner's writing style, his short story A Rose for Emily is analyzed from three angles of vivid characters, unique writing technique and profound theme. The analysis indicates that the author uses concise writing style, unique structure and metaphor to create a complicated character Emily, representative of southern traditional forces and traditional values during the Civil War. Analysis of Emily's tragedy reveals the patriarchal system, slavery, racism and Puritanism.
