After the investigation for the coordinated development of regional economy, this paper re-analyzes the role and status of transportation industry. The author thinks that the role and function of transportation industry cannot be taken as the basic industry according to the traditional industry position-ing, and it should be the leading-industry. The paper also demonstates, in detail, the leading role with Hirschman's unbalanced growth theory and Francois Perroux's growth pole theory, and its role in the coord-inated development of regional economies in physical transmission, location conversion, industry generation and urban-rural harmony. The author, at last, proposes some other related advice.
