Abstract:
Tennessee Williams is a great American playwright whose plays are always emerged in the atmosphere of a romantic gentility, making a strong contrast with the distorted relations of family members depicted in the play such as cat on a hot tin roo f. In this play, a lot of symbols such as animals, fire and water are employed. This study analyses these symbols by applying new criticism so as to interpret the play. And the conclusion is that family is not a warm place any longer where love is being regarded as anything but the essence of love. And people in the modern world should have a strong desire for love.
