Abstract:
“To be emperor's both servant and his guider”, namely putting Confucius way into practice through Emperor within the feudal system, was the ideal pursuit of some excellent ancient Confucianists(Shi). However, ZHANG Jiu-ling's dismissal from his prime minister post signifies the truth that it was just the ideal pursuit which caused their political predicament. The way to extricate from the predicament, for those who would not leave the court even if they could not realize their political goal, was to be an official recluse, which means that they still tried to retain their integration of inner self even though they didn't resign his post.
